-- The self-titled debut album by Slow Motion Reign (out now
on Serj Tankian’s Serjical Strike Records) has debuted
on #14 on CMJ‘s “Radio 200 Adds” chart with
31 official adds including core stations WMPG (Portland, ME),
WWVU (Morgantown, WV), WONC (Naperville, IL), WRUW (Cleveland,
OH), WVUD (Newark, DE), KHSU (Arcata, CA).
While a full-scale
tour is still in the works, the band--Narek Pogosyan (lead
vocals, bass), Erwin Khachikian (keyboards), Rafik Oganyan
(guitars), Vigen Sayadian (drums)—will be performing
in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, September 15 at the Knitting
Factory with VAST.
On Thursday, September
14, Slow Motion Reign will make their television debut on
G4tv’s “Attack of the Show!” program, where
they’ll perform the album’s compelling first single,
“Isn’t It Time.” The show airs at 4pm PT/7pm
ET.
The mesmerizing
video for “Isn’t It Time” is currently being
serviced to TV outlets nationwide, but is available to view
on the band’s website, www.slowmotionreign.com, and
Myspace page, www.myspace.com/slowmotionreign.
Further in the
online world, MP3.com and Download.com are currently hosting
listening parties of the entire album (produced by label head
and System of a Down singer Serj Tankian), and fans can check
out “Isn’t It Time” on AOL Radio’s
“New Rock First” channel. Rave reviews are also
popping up on various websites including RockNWorld,
Melodic.net, MusicTap, RockNRoll Universe,
High Bias and many others.
And starting Monday,
August 14 at 4pm Pacific Time on Yahoo! Music, fans
will get the chance to vote between four new artists, including
Slow Motion Reign, to become the featured “Who's Next?”
artist and go on to fame, glory, and major Yahoo! Music
feature placement. The program features an array of developing
rock talent, featuring everything from AAA troubadours to
U.K. darlings…from straight up rock to hard edged metal…from
commercial alt-rock to really cool indie-rock. “Who's
Next?” allows the Yahoo! Music audience the opportunity
to pick who they feel has the greatest chance for future success.
The official voting site is http://launch.yahoo.com/promotions/whosnext/.
Voting concludes four weeks after the start date.
Here’s a
sample of the critical praise that’s been pouring in:
“What they
developed over the past couple of years is a sound that counterbalances
aggressive, churning guitars against melody-rich piano lines.”
--Kevin Bronson,
Los Angeles Times,
July 20, 2006
“Gentle rhythms and elaborate flourishes complete the
package, making SLOW MOTION REIGN a refreshing twist on contemporary
rock.”
--Chuck Campbell,
Knoxville News Sentinel,
July 28, 2006
“SMR goes
from whisper to scream with relative ease, their songs beginning
with ephemeral and gorgeous melodies that evolve quickly into
a crashing guitar din and occasional harmonic dissonance…Slow
Motion Reign likes to combine disparate sonic textures to
create a fascinating, engaging tension and a dark drama.”
--Brian Baker,
Cincinnati CityBeat,
July 19, 2006
“‘Isn't It Time’ is flamboyant and powerful
as well as all-embracingly tasteful…Overall: Slow Motion
Reign already have what it takes to be a major hit worldwide.”
--Indienewslive.com,
July 24, 2006
“Music for the thinking people and progressive rock
for the new millennium…A pearl of a record!”
